Positional Truths and Blessings of Believers

When a person becomes a believer in Jesus Christ, he or she is instantaneously enriched with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3; Colossians 2:10). This can be referred to theologically as positional truths or blessings.

. . .

Whenever the Apostle Paul uses terms such as “in Christ”, “in Jesus”, “in Christ Jesus” or “in Jesus Christ”, then God reveals something that is true of the believer’s position of being in the Messiah (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:13). These positional truths or blessings are because of God’s grace, it is “to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6). The position in Christ is not only the basis of the believer’s authority (cf. Ephesians 1:18-19), but the position in Christ is also the believer’s best defence in spiritual warfare (cf. Colossians 2:14-15; Hebrews 2:14-15). To be strong in the Lord (cf. Ephesians 6:10) is to recognise our position in Christ Jesus and the authority that comes with that position in Him.

Positional Truths and Blessings of the Believer in Christ

If you never receive Jesus Christ by faith, He who died on the cross in your place to pay the penalty for your sins and who rose again to ever reign with God the Father, then you will forfeit these awesome blessings. However, when you receive Jesus Christ by faith, the following 33 things are unconditionally promised in the Word of God to you as a member of the body of Christ.

Conclusion

We receive all the above blessings the moment we come to faith in Christ Jesus our Saviour. It is very important that believers understand their position in Christ. This position in Christ is the basis for our authority, our defence in spiritual warfare. This battle is fought against the flesh, the world and the devil and his demonic forces. We never stand on our own merit, but only in our Lord Jesus Christ — based on what He has already done for us, as set out in the Word of God. We stand on the basis of our position in Christ and on the fact that God has imputed Christ’s righteousness to us. To Christ be the glory.
